Cambodia // 2005
In 2005, Joel and I went to Cambodia for the first time. We fell in love. The people are amazing, the land is beautiful and the entire country is rich with history. We learned a lot while we were there. We learned about conflict and what it can do to a country; what it can do to generations of people. We learned about the execution of 2,000,000 Cambodians. We learned about civil war and the modern challenges of the sex trade.
We made friends and returned later. We love the Cambodian people. They are quick to smile, slow to judge, giving and laugh easily. It’s remarkable that a population of people so scarred by past tragedy has managed to remain strong in its culture and joy.
